Viki Steiri is a composer, cellist, pianist and interdisciplinary artist. Her musical interests include free improvisation, experimental electronic music and composition for other media. She has written music for installations, performance, video art and film. Her first solo LP Balm was released digitally by Alien Jams and on vinyl by Rekem Records in 2024. She is also a member of the improvised music/art group Ectopia (‘life/section’, 2017, Wysing Polyphonic), and has collaborated with other artists on releases such as ‘Future Chorus’ (with Eleni Ikoniadou, 2023, Maenads/Hypermedium) and 'sex robot’ (with Turner prize winner Sidsel Meineche Hansen, 2019, self-released). Born in Greece, she moved to London in 2005 and is based in Athens as of 2021.
Other collaborators include visual artists Monster Chetwynd, Shezad Dawood, Zoe Williams, Urara Tsuchiya and Dorine Van Meel; Wysing Arts Centre (Ectopia residency and LP), film collective Sharna Pax, and musicians Sofia Jernberg, Saint Abdullah, Dario Papavassiliou, Savvas Metaxas, David Aird (Vindicatrix), Tom Wheatley, Tom Hirst (Design A Wave), Adam Sherry (A Dead Forest Index) and Patchfinder. In the past she has co-hosted a radio show on NTS radio with Chloe Frieda (Alien Jams) and performed with the Eddie Prevost free improvisation workshop for a couple of years.
She has performed in the UK, Europe and the U.S. in festivals and venues for innovative arts, including the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Cafe OTO, Hayward Gallery, David Roberts Art Foundation (London); Sound Quests (Turin), Le Guess Who? festival (Utrecht), New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York); Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin); Overgaden Institute of Contemporary Art (Copenhagen); Glasgow International; Wysing Festival (Cambridge); ; Le Lac (Brussels); La Générale en manufacture (Paris); Fundação Manuel Antonio Da Mota (Porto), TV Control Centre, Haus N Athen, Romantso (Athens), and others.
